Celebrating 13 Years by Completing Our 78th Water Project in Rwanda

At The Well Coffee Roasters, we believe coffee can do more than fuel your day, it can fuel lasting change. And this year, as we celebrate 13 years in business, we’re marking the occasion in the best way we know how: by completing our 78th clean water project.

Thanks to your continued support and our partnership with Water For People, this milestone project is bringing clean, safe water to thousands in Rwanda—and changing lives for generations to come.

Meet Immaculée – Water Guardian in Rwanda

For Immaculée Mukamutesi, a mother and community member in rural western Rwanda, clean water was once an unimaginable luxury.

Every morning, Immaculée and other women in her village walked for more than an hour and a half to collect water—water that was unsafe to drink.

“The journey was tiresome and the water very dirty,” she recalls.

Even as a young girl, she dreamed of a different life—one where her future children wouldn’t face the same struggle. But after marrying and settling near her birthplace, the same routine continued: long walks, heavy jerry cans, and constant health risks from waterborne illness.

Then, everything changed.

In 2020, Water For People partnered with the district of Karongi, Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructures, and the national water utility to launch the Karongi WASH Program—a project designed to bring clean water, hygiene, and sanitation to entire communities.

“Everyone was so happy about the news,” Immaculée says. “It was like we were fast entering a new era.”

And in 2022, clean water finally flowed through taps in Immaculée’s village.

“That was the day our dreams became true. We now hope for better, healthy lives and look to a better future. With clean water, life becomes better.”

Today, Immaculée proudly serves as a Water Guardian in her village—helping to maintain the water system for future generations.

“We will take good care of these facilities. It’s the least we can do.”
