Project 83: Clean Water in Bensa, Ethiopia
At The Well, every cup of coffee is connected to something bigger.
We’re proud to introduce Project 83, our newest clean water initiative in Bensa, Ethiopia—a region known for producing exceptional coffee and, at the same time, facing daily challenges accessing safe, reliable water.
Why Bensa?
Bensa sits in the Sidama region of Ethiopia, an area celebrated around the world for its high-quality coffee. It’s a place that plays a meaningful role in the global coffee community and in our own sourcing journey.
But beyond the coffee, there’s a reality that often goes unseen.
Many families in Bensa have historically relied on distant or unsafe water sources, requiring long daily walks to collect water that isn’t always clean. This impacts everything from health and education to economic opportunity and time spent with family.

What Project 83 Means
Project 83 is about changing that reality.
Through this initiative, we’re helping bring clean, accessible water closer to home for the Bensa community. Reliable water access means:
- Less time spent walking long distances
- Improved health and sanitation
- More time for school, work, and family
- Greater opportunity for long-term community growth
Clean water doesn’t just meet a basic need. It creates the foundation for everything else.
The Impact
Because of you, $20,000 has been donated to our partner, Water for Good, funding three new water sources in the villages of Denbi Alawa, Kale Hiywot, and Ketema Aguta.
These water points will serve 775 people. Construction has already begun, and we can’t wait to show you the impact in the months ahead.

Your Role in This Story
Every purchase you make at The Well helps support projects like this.
When you choose our coffee, you’re not just choosing quality. You’re contributing to meaningful, lasting impact in the communities that make what we do possible.
Project 83 is more than a number. It represents real people, real families, and a real step toward lasting change in Bensa.
Thank you for being part of it.
